... I thought Hall & Oats's keyboardist used the dual manual Prophet 10. Jonathan Cain from Journey definitely used a P5 though ("Escape" & "Frontiers" era). I had a Pro One back in the day - nice monophonic synth... that arpeggiator was fun...

@Mattyuk1 Dance music's origins pre-date the introduction of digital synths. The most ubiquitous sounds of those genres were analogue.
-
@VectronMusic I was just thinking similar — no, don't use digital on dance tracks, use analog on those as well! :)
-
And that's why dance records sound best with vintage synths.

This thing is coming up with some pretty amazing sounds, though I'm frankly only judging this as a casual listener not a hardcore synth geek...

If I could pick an old one, I'd choose Elka Synthex, Prophet 5, or Jupiter 6 or 8. They sound the nicest and have large controls. I have sight problems. People must be asking too much because lots of ads stay up a long time. There's 3 P5s for sale in UK Ads, there over a month. The cheapest working is 1.5K! Kawai sx240 and Akai AX80 don't cost so much if you can find them.

@TheSongsparrow rev2 really isn't that much better sounding at all, i had one before and now have a rev3 and it's great and doesn't stop working all the time!

@TheSongsparrow In the gumtree small ads there are two different Prophets for sale in London, yet the photo of each is identical. They can't both be selling the same one. Very odd.
the Po8's a different and new synth that really does different things - a lot of people like both. P5 will always be the big daddy of sequential.

Warm, phat, analog sounds are the way forward since they came about.
These new digital tracey synths are and will always be boring!
Sure bring them out and use them for dance records, but bring back our warm, phat, analog synths so we can create wonderful sounds with them!
