This video shows part of the operation of a 200+ cubic yard per hour trommel style gold wash plant operating at a gold mine in the Alaska Range. You can see the first step of the separation process where the material that is being processed is washed inside the trommel (drum) and the 1" and smaller (1" minus) material falls through the rotating screen. The 1" minus material is washed through the two 4' wide sluice boxes where the gold with a specific gravity of 19 is caught in the riffle system (recovery system) of the two sluice boxes. The lighter material is washed off the end of the boxes into the tailing pond where the water is re-circulated back into the trommel wash plant. You can learn more about this trommel style wash plant at Alaska Mining Equipment.
