Me starting the 8.2T Detroit Diesel in my 87 GMC in 40* degree weather. The truck had been sitting overnight, and this engine has no external starting aids.

  • I cant believe in the early 80s these monster diesels were put in the pick ups!!!

  • @Motorfordtoyota They never did put these in pickups. You are thinking about the 6.2 and 6.5 diesels.

  • Thats cool...its a diesel but the exhaust sounds like a gasoline engine. Is this a V8 detroit?

  • @jpgbrookes Yes it's a V-8, 500 cubic inches

  • why is it surging likt that? is it a oil pressure controlled fuel governer or somethin' i dont know what it is

  • Most diesels with mechanical fuel injection will lope or surge when they are cold.

  • damn i wish i had my truck that looked like that back

  • @Blue10AEMia Oh, I read in some Chevy history books that they were a rare option in the 3/4 and 1 tons.

  • I am thinking about buying one of these engines. How much would you assume a easily repairable one costs with a few hundred thousand on it?
