There is a difference in sound when an arpeggio is swept or alternate picked. When one sweeps you have some 'linear notes' & a few 'hammer-ons & pull-offs ' that gives it an UNEVEN SOUND. Also the positions are 'boxed'. With alternate picked arpeggios the positions are played diagonally as well as 'boxed' with much more choices & possibilities. Guitarists are used to sweeping the sound, but you should have a choice on how to play something, that is real mastery. All alternate picked arpeggios are even in sound & tone, sharper & more virtuosic on electric or classical guitar. This ability also opens up others avenues of picking control & speed as well as gives higher dynamics when playing & composing.
