The Husband has become thoughtful and looks envoiusly at his rival. The latter remains motionless for a moment, as if transfigured, then slowly and dreamily takes his place again at the table with the Husband. For an instant eve Amelia, vaguely touched though obviously bored, reflects and sighs disconsolately. But as soon as she sees that the Lover has returned to the table to continue the discussion with the Husband, she bursts into sudden fury.
Blind with anger, Amelia grab the vase from the table and smashes it to pieces on her Husbnd's head. The latter collapses on the chair unconscious. Amelia is at first stupefied at wht she has done, and then frightened out of her wits. ...
