Something Weird Virgin Sacrifice

Seven years before he was seen trudging through the wilds of the Okefenokee in the good-ol'-boy classick Swamp Country, DAVID DaLIE can be seen trudging through the wilds of South America as "Samson, the hunter" in Virgin Sacrifice, a juicy little jungle thriller "Actually Filmed in Guatemala, Featuring Vicuni Savages!" Hunting animals for a circus — hey, good guy hunters don't shoot animals, they only capture the poor beasts — Samson is barely introduced when he immediately has a flashback to "the most horrible sight of his life" which, not coincidental, is also the film's most startling scene: swaying to jazz-style jungle music, a sexy young lady is tied up by a group of savages in ritual masks, stripped topless with her lovely bare breasts exposed, then stabbed screaming by a witch doctor. Which is really a wonderful way of starting any jungle movie. Both surprising and wonderfully gratuitous, the nudity must have made eyeballs pop way back in 1959, and is still a bit jarring in an otherwise innocuous little adventure flick. - Something Weird
