The world is full of magic my heart is full of you

Two nations fighting over the border since the world began

When alls said and done nobody wins cause no one really owns the land

Long ago they were brothers Cain killed Abel but they had the same mother

I wish I knew why it all breaks down

If they loved their children more than war maybe theyd work it out


Delores was a pretty girl her mothers pride and joy

A ravishing beauty she turned the heads of all the local boys

Between her ears there was nothing but space so she learned to depend upon her face

I wish I knew what nature had in mind

Its certainly not a case of intelligent design


I was young with no direction she was barely seventeen

We planned to elope in the middle of the night but her father got in between

Im no Romeo shes no Juliet we were doomed from the start on the day we met

I wish I knew where she is now

No matter what you do sometimes it all goes south


I had a plan to set you straight thought that youd agree

Its so much easier to run your life than to concentrate on me

Thought youd learn from my mistakes help you avoid my heartaches

I wish I knew where I went wrong

Some folks just aint grateful when you help them along


Now Jesus died upon the cross to take away our sin

Some folks think they can do no wrong just because theyre following Him

You can call down a curse from the Lord above but youre wasting your breath if you aint got love

I wish I knew how it got so turned around

The last will be first and the lost will be found


I wish I knew what makes the world go round just keep on asking maybe someday youll figure it out
