  • I didn't realize the Edison company had made these films of public transit. They are very cool.

  • Thanks for the info.

  • Awesome post -

    Thanks!!

  • Thanks for the info.

  • The City wanted to close down the tracks that went over the bridge and had at least two good reasons for doing so. 1) The services were not as popular as they once were due to the presence of subways. 2) While many tracks fed into the bridge, there were only two on the bridge itself and this was a major cause of congestion for the system. This information can be verified on wikipedia. Assume that each line feeding in had two tracks.

  • but why?

  • Yeah. There weren't many automobiles in use in 1899, when this film was made.

  • I don't think there are any els left in

Manhatten so I went to Chicago to see them.

What a nice sound every 3 minutes.

  • Elevated train service over the Brooklyn Bridge ended in 1944

  • The Brooklyn bridge used to be part of the Fulton St El. The only surviving portion of the El. is the A train from lefferts blvd in Queens to the curve before Grant Ave in brooklyn
