There is a firmware update that fixes it. You have to call sony about it though, they don't have it available as a download. Search the AVS forum, they have solved the problem.
I've heard of the sparkle issue, but all the other videos I've seen aren't steady enough for me to notice. I just saw 3 sparks myself. I recently discouraged myself from purchasing a Samsung LN40A650T. I guess, when it comes down to it, I'll have to choose between the lesser of evils, err, I mean negatives. I don't think a firmware upgrade can resolve a problem like this. Might be a PCB issue. I'll wait to end life of 4100. Hopefully, issue will be resolved by then with new revision. I dunno.
On mine only on HDMI sources and pretty minor but it does do it and should not be happening. Excellent TV otherwise. Hopefully Sony will get enough flack about this they will come up with a fix.
