I first saw Tom in Southampton, UK in the winter of '70. There had been a mail strike and a snow storm, so this huge hall was only part filled. Being a student I and my pals had bought the cheapest tickets in the Gods - but Tom though, "To hell with this" and he brought us all down to the stalls where we all joined in a superb, intimate evening. I remember it so well considering how long ago it was.
God bless you Tom you don't know how much I love your music.

I have seen Tom live on many occasions, don't think I have missed a UK tour since the early 70s. His accompanists have always been first class, but this one is singing the harmonies way off key. His playing is good, but the singing.............
Still, Tom is as good as ever and that's the main thing.

@pvreditor Right, buddy, but what I dislike a bit with his "My Pony Knows the Way," though, is that it has a bit too much of Nanci Griffith's "Speed of the sound of loneliness" in it. :-) But yes Bullock doesn't do too bad on that one. On the other hand though... my choice would be Paxton alone. :-) And, before forgetting it. Thanks for sharing the "pony".

@pvreditor Yes I mean Judy of course. Sorry, just a slip of the keyboard. (Joan is alright too though, in her own field.)

Thanks for the great story!
I went to Dublin for the Paxton concert on Sept. 28. where Robin Bullock was the back up as well. Why Paxton drags that squeaking voice along beats me, and neither does Bullocks picking back up Paxton, but rather overrun him. The only memorable part from Dublin was when Paxton alone sang a short goodby totally unplugged. Please, Tom Paxton, your voice is still good, your picking as well. Please find your way back to yourself . One man, one guitar, and your brilliant songs from the sixties.

@brandulph FWIW, I posted a song from a concert this past summer with Paxton and Bullock. It is "My Pony Knows the Way," and I thought it came out very well. But yeah, in this song, Robin Bullock is not helping.

He is coming to the Theatre Royal Norwich in July, and I have a ticket in Row D. I am SO excited and can't wait. I have wanted to see him live all my life, and I am realising my dream next month. He embodies all the great folk music that came out of the Sixties when I was a teenager!

Hope you enjoy the show! I've seen Tom Paxton many times and even got to strum his guitar once. He is a fun and gracious performer, quite entertaining.

Tom is one of the all time greats along with Pete Seeger, Woodie Guthrie and Joan Collins. We are privileged to live in their era.

Do you mean Judy Collins? Joan Collins was/is an actress. Not a bad one but not the sort of person I'd put in the same league as Pete Seeger and Woodie Guthrie.
