Tennis Tips: The Tennis Serve:
The tennis serve is the most important tool in a tennis players tool box. You don't need a partner to work on the tennis serve, just grab a basket of tennis balls, head the the tennis court and go to work on your tennis serve. Done correctly the tennis serve can be your biggest weapon and often the only shot needed during a rally.
Ryan Segelke from High Altitude Tennis shows you step by step how to hit an effortless and injury free tennis serve. Enjoy!
The secret to a great tennis serve starts with the stance. You want your feet to point toward the side wall and in line toe to toe with you intended target. This is important for the tennis serve so you are able to stay side ways and hit up on the tennis ball.
You need a continental grip on the tennis serve (#2). The tennis serve motion is very similar to the pitching motion in baseball. Watch Andy Murray on his tennis serve and you will see that he turns sideways to stay sideways at contact.
Some tennis tips for the tennis serve are:
Have a continental grip on your tennis serve.
Keep your palm down on the tennis serve.
Elbow should stay below your shoulder on your tennis serve.
Left arm needs to stay up which forces you to stay sideways at contact so you can add more consistency and miles per hour on your tennis serve.
Make sure to hit up on the tennis ball while practicing your tennis serve.
