I am not a Ford or Chevy guy, just a guy that goes for HP/$ which leads me to the SBC. But to say Chevy had an upper hand on Ford and Ford "sucked" while Chevy "ruled' is being short sighted. Check the January 2010 issue of Hot Rod. They did a comparison of several '60's engines and Ford did very well, comparing apples to apples. Only an idiot would compare an '80's Ford 5.0 to the DZ302.

@ad356 January 2010 issue of Hot Rod: they recreated the Boss 302 and DZ302. The Boss made 372 HP at 6800 RPM. The DZ302 made 356 HP at 6700 RPM. Both the Ford 302 and Chevy 302 were 4" bore by 3" stroke. Have you seen the Boss 302 heads? Nothing special about them? Think again. The only difference is Chevy didn't put the 302 in anything else, Ford did. But there is nothing special about the DZ302 block or heads, only the intake.

Are the heads ported? What compression? Is this a Duntov 30-30 cam? I'm surprised at the throttle response on this motor.

Between the Ford 302,427 and chevy 302, and 427 there is much competition they were the Holy Grail of Cid and perfection comes from the amount of money you throw at them.They're equals.

You just gotta laugh.
They're all internal combustion engines. Somewhere there's a 289 Ford that can beat a 454 Chevy.
Swap out the cam in that 454 and suddenly the tables could be turned.
Build identical Chevy and Ford 302's. Same cam, similar heads and intake and you'll have 2 motors with almost identical torque and horsepower.
There's a guy right now trying to convince me he can determine engine RPM with his EARS...LOL

I am sure you are too young to know much about the DZ302. Chevy had to recall the 69 camaro because the engine kept snapping motor mounts. The result was chaining the motor to the frame. No ford 302 will do that from the factory Skippy.
