"I Made a Fool of Myself Over John Foster Dulles" was a popular 50s and 60s song sung by Carol Burnett to spoof young teenagers and their rock idols. According to Carol, he was not a very attractive man, which made the song funny. I do not own the rights to this song. It is just a fan video

  • I am currently reading Carol's book "This Time Together" and she writes a chapter about this song. I remember seeing her do this on Ed Sullivan so i came on here to see if anyone had the song up, and you did!! Thanks for a great memory of such a funny song.

  • @anticorpration Anytime. The reason I made this video was because of the song in the book. I searched for hours on the internet until I found a good-quality version of it and then edited it a little on my computer. glad you enjoyed it!!

  • Did she ever release this on an album?

  • @OldieMusicMan I think she may have because this version sounded too good for being on television or ripped from a radio in 1961

  • At last!

Why did it take so long to get this on youtube?!

    Thanks, NZ! ^_^

  • @headgrape No problem. I found it online (because after reading her book, i really wanted to hear it!!).

She is amazingly funny and I think that the pics I use enhance the comedy a little.

    Glad I could help

  • @nz166 Both pictures of a man with a pipe are Allen W. Dulles--Foster's brother, and CIA director.

  • @OldieMusicMan Yessirree, she sure did. It's on the other side of the record that has "Puppy Love" on it. Also, the Ed Sullivan show video is up again. Go check it out...it truly is hilarious.

  • @eh77c in the video??

  • I saw a clip of her singing this on TV in some documentary. Wish I could find it. Her facial expressions were hilarious.

  • @anticorpration

I too, am reading this book and came here for the same reason. Thanks, nz!

  • im reading her "One More Time" memoir and she wrote about this song in it.

  • Great job and thanks for posting! The Sullivan performance used to be posted, but got taken down a long time ago. I really love how Dulles reacted to the song, saying basically that he didn't discuss affairs of the heart!
