ALA 100 MASTERY: Handmade Cards

In this YouTube video I will demonstrate my mastery which is creating handmade cards for my friends and family. This one minute video shows a breakdown of the five steps, according to Five Keys to Mastery by George Leonard, you need to take in order to master this art form. The first step to mastery is to surrender your passion, you need to be creative when making a work of art and in order to be creative you have to put a part of yourself in what you are making. This can be done by adding mementos to the card which are important to you. The second step is to practice, practice, practice, you need to practice some sort of art daily in order to become a better artist. The third is to get a guide, my guide was Martha Stewart because she inspired me that it is easy to become a master in crafts. The fourth is to visualize the outcome, before I start making a card I like to visualize how it will make the receiver of my card feel. The fifth is Play the edge, I like to try new ideas out on my handmade cards. The uniqueness to my creations makes them worthwhile to create.
The history of my handmade card mastery began when I started watching HGTV, which is a craft show on television. I enjoyed watching episodes where the host would create a craft which had a personal meaning to whomever they were giving it to. I then began making my own works of art in card form and since then I have been giving these cards for friends birthdays and holidays. My contribution is of value because I believe it is important for everyone to express themselves in a creative way through any type of art form.
