Here's a real blast from the past! This animation was produced in 1992 by Tobias Richter using assorted high-powered Commodore Amiga computers. It may look a bit dated now but back in '92 it was real eye-popping stuff!
Tobias Richter produced many fine rendered animations on the Commodore Amiga back in the day - many of which were released on disk by 17 Bit Software (a UK based PD library). If memory serves this animation was made available on VHS video by 17 Bit Software.
The video tape I found this animation on was in a very bad state so I captured it in to digitally preserve the classic Amiga footage. I've cleaned up the audio a bit and have even re-synched it slightly as the original video footage was slightly out of synch with the audio.
I hope you enjoy this video and it brings back some memories of the good old days of the Commodore Amiga.
Fantastic. A tribute to the awesome power of the AMIGAAAAHHHH!!! The finest computer that ever was.

Awesome. I'm reminding of just how truly amazing my venerable old Amiga is.
I've got videoscape somewhere around here...

There was no internet back then, so most of those model had to be constructed or enhanced from sources on BBS. Things are sooo much easier and faster nowadays. I see he was using VideoScape which later became LightWave in 1990.

wow.
thnskyou for this. I loved the Amiga days. Some of the shots of the attack on the death star are spookily similar to the 1997 re-do of A New Hope...maybe George Lucas was inspired

SWEET MEMORIES. I met Tobias at the "Amiga Messe" in cologne. I was the guy with wide opened mouth when i was watching this video and saying: oooh ( ok 1 of 100.000) :D
I am missing the times.

When you consider the capabilities of home computers back in the early 1990's this video is simply amazing. The models look great.

The 3D animation is great, but kudos also to Bjorn Lynne for the musical backing to this. At 2:55 is the real beginning, and then from 3:26 the magic begins. Honestly this tune has a really nice 'evolving' bassline (4:46+), good orchestration, and some delicious chord sequences (gotta love its use major/minor/sust 2nd/4ths). + a cool change of key to top it off.
Oh and the credits piece is a good contrast too and quite a nice piece in itself.
