  • Why are you people getting so upset about this? The thing about Molly Meldrum was that he wasn't a journalist, so his interviews were very shallow, but he was a great supporter of new acts - particularly Australian - and for that, he deserves some respect. But I agree that he wasn't really qualified to take on someone as complex and literate as Bowie.

  • Bowie always seems kinda bored when he talks to Molly, like in another interview in Sydney just before "Lets Dance" came out.

He gets distracted by looking at a boat lol.

But still a good interview, very intresting to hear what he had to say about his past albums.

And I love the eyeliner on him.

  • You should see Bryan Ferry's reaction to Molly. Trying his best not to openly mock him, but it's written all over his face.

  • I ABSOLUTELY ADORE THIS BOWIE MUSIC PERIOD! :D

    ("Heros"----- Diamond Dogs) Ultimate favorites!)

  • I think it's a shame that 99.9% of interviewers don't have an appreciation for Bowie's sense of humour, he does have a cheeky and playful personality, but for some reason they want to make him out to be this ultra serious behemoth with an air of inaccessibility.

Also, I think many interviewers forget that 'stars' have been asked the same questions over and over again and they are naturally going to get bored easily, most of them don't even try to be interesting or different.

  • ive never really liked molly meldrum. he seems too uptight, maybe a bit too businessman like? he doesnt get jokes or smile, i kinda feel sorry for the people he interviews.

  • Bowie made me feel nervous here

  • I agree sawbird. Thanks ever so much for this. You are right. There is no need for people to get so worked up. Why get so precious about an interview. I have been a Bowie fan since the early days and I can be wholly critical when someone does not get the facts right or know Bowie's history and back catalogue inside out but it is obvious to me that this guy is promoting Bowie's music/legacy and comes across as quite a fan. He is talking to him, not conducting research for a PhD.

  • The interviewer didn't even smile, so that was Bowie's last attempt to "crack the ice" (or, rather, stone). After that he started to look openly bored, and even looked at his watch once. I've seen him bored in other interviews, but I had never seen him so bored that he would look into his watch without even trying to hide it. It looked like the interviewer didn't even notice it, though.

  • In the beginning Bowie tried to joke just to lighten the mood a bit, but the man didn't smile even once. Then he asked Bowie something like - whether he is the same in real life as on stage, and Bowie said something like (with a completely straight face) - no, this is my public persona (he was quite plainly dressed, and looked "very normal''), but at home I wear Ziggy makeup, high heels and costumes.

  • I once saw a 2002 interview by some german TV man. That was something! The man obviously was not interested in Bowie at all, and actually knew nothing about him. And he asked a selection of the most standard questions that Bowie has ever been asked. In addition to that, he was just so dumb (and I am serious when I say this), so dull and boring, and, on the top of it, he was so incredibly serious.

  • He's just a tiny bit patronizing.

  • They skipped over diamond dogs? He must not care for that one much.
