Mold Making and Casting: Silicone Hand

The video that started it all. This is a great fast and cheap method for making realistic body parts on set.

I used Artmolds alginate for the mold and Platsil Gel-10 for the cast.

can you do the same thing but with a doll hand like a baby doll hand ?

@rebornsforlife1997 Yes, but you might consider using a lower viscosity silicone like 73-15 or adding a small amount of silicone fluid to Gel-10 before casting. This will aid in casting small finger tips.

Hello, I really enjoyed your hand casting video.

I would like to make realistic burned hand gloves for a small movie in Vancouver,

I guess it will need 2 or 3 molds to do that. Could you maybe help me out with it ?

@etienneamien Can't really explain that in a comment but, in short, you will need to make a 2 piece negative mold with a positive core shaped like the hand, or the hand, that the glove will be on. This will insure that the finished part fits the actor.

Thank you, I did some casting at the art academy but never used real FX products such as silicon or alginate, only plaster. Regarding the hand gloves I guessed that I could move my hand into the first mold to enlarge the shape, then poor latex inside the mold and put back my hand to form a glove around it... But I guess it wont work like that and that my hand could stay stuck :)
