Nick Rhodes and Simon LeBon of synth-pop pioneers Duran Duran stopped by Rolling Stone to talk to Rob Sheffield -- author of the recent book 'Talking to Girls About Duran Duran' -- about putting the finishing touches on their forthcoming album, 'All You Need Is Now.' In this clip, they discuss how working with Mark Ronson, who wanted to "capture the spirit of the band from the 1980s" on the new album, helped them fuse their past artistic triumphs with a modern aesthetic.

  • I disagree with Mark Ronson. It sucks to see Simon Le Bon agreeing with him on it. I think Seven And The Ragged Tiger was an AMAZING album. A great follow-up to Rio. But that's just me though.

  • Nick is the coolest keyboard player of all time :)

  • @LittleEmoDancer I wasn't suggesting he is gay i just thought he looked like Crisp. Duran are just lightweights and musical history will mark them as just that, i dont think they have influenced any band of importance around today unlike Nirvana or the Smiths for example.

  • @permaveg Except for the fact that he's not gay and not full of outrageous soundbites. Think what you will, but I doubt the guys give a toss about people who think they're just out for money.

  • I think all Duran albums had their better points, but I think what Ronson was trying to caputure was that Disco/New Wave/New Romantic blend that was uniquely Duran Duran and that launched their career and that is best caputured on Duran Duran 1 and Rio. There was a real edgy sound to the band on those two alubms, especially with Nicks' highly flanged keys and old school sequencing. They also sang more about sex. Interesting album..like someone crossed Duran 1 with Medazzaland.

  • My goodness does Nick look great. Even after years of seeing him wearing heavy make up he looks just fine without it.

  • @MrNostalgiaX No, I agree with you. Seven And The Ragged Tiger has my favourite songs, Shadows On Your Side and The Seventh Stranger.

  • Simmo, Halloween's over. You can take off the George Michael ca. 1985 make-up.

  • @PlaceSoFarAway Impressively said!

  • @MrNostalgiaX Yeah, it's got some of my all-time favorite DD songs on there... New Moon, I Take the Dice, Crime and Passion, and possibly my ALL-TIME favorite DD song, Shadows on Your Side. It's a damn good album. And I'm saying that as someone who doesn't unconditionally love everything that DD has done.

  • I was just thinking about the 'composition' of the music Duran Duran does - after the delight of seeing a playful spaceship in the video / Nick Rhodes / I thought - this Guy is really really neat - and I started thinking that I never really paid attn. to the composition element when I was younger - now at 48 , I can tether those thoughts and try to appreciate learning the angle of Nicks' Art .. cool stuff // stuph lol
