CIM's Joel Smirnoff Wins Grammy
Julliard Quartet honored with Lifetime Achievement Award
Cleveland couldn't be prouder of Cleveland Institute of Art president Joel Smirnoff and his colleagues the Julliard Quartet, for which he played violin since 1986.
The Lifetime Achievement Award is presented by a vote of The Recording Academy's National Trustees to performers who, during their lifetimes, have made creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording. This will be the Quartet's fifth Grammy Award.
Pianist Emmanuel Ax celebrates the Julliard Quartet's pioneering spirit and the contribution they have made to the "the incredible rise in popularity and knowledge of the string quartet literature- and the fact that most music lovers are now as aware and excited by quartets as they are a grand opera..."
