I found this a little scary. Good effort, but...
First, turn the outside all the way to completion, then turn the inside. When doing finish scraping cuts, have your scraper at a 45 degree angle, not flat. Especially when working near the rim. Even the lightest pressure will cause the rim to flex. This causes the tool to bounce which caused your catch. Keep the tool handle closer to your body, and move with your body, not pushing with your hands and arms.

Hey, he is eight years old and still learning and so am I. The bowl didnt crack and because of something he did. The log had natural crack in it before we got started and thought it would add to the character of the bowl. What was scary?
