Halloween is approaching, so I hope you enjoy this spooky little song, which dates back to 1934. "With Her Head Tucked Underneath Her Arm", was written by R.P Weston and Bert Lee, and originally performed by Stanley Holloway. This version is on an 8" Woolworth's Eclipse label 78, wirh the vocalist being Sammy Gay.

It tells the story of the ghost of Anne Boleyn (one of Henry VIII's wives), who is said to haunt the Tower of London seeking revenge on her husband who had her beheaded.

Played on my His Master's Voice model 102 gramophone.

  • very neat looking record label and sleeve,we had woolworths in the states but as far

as i recall they never sold their own records?was the uk woolworths connected to

    ours?

  • @chompo7 Hi! Thanks for the comments! I believe that the US and British Woolworths started out as the same company (By F.W.Woolworth), but the British company separated from the American one at some point. Woolworths in the UK sadly went bust in 2008 and the shops closed down at the beginning of 2009, although the name was bought by another company which uses it as an online shop.

  • @CrisVangel Hi Cris, Thanks for the comment. I'm pleased with the little camera's sound quality, especially as it was a reasonably priced one - only £99 from Amazon!

  • @sideshowtink Hi Tink! I'm so pleased that you liked it! I'll have a search for some more ghosty Halloween type records!
