actually the standard issue is called the "Soldier" and is made of alox. however there is a multitude of other knives that swiss soldiers use depending on their occupation. the knife pictured is a swisschamp bytheway. would have thought that that fella in the swiss military knew what kind of gear he was issued, considering that they are required to keep for life...

the red handled "original swiss army knife" is NOT the knife officialy used in swiss army!!!! Swiss soldiers have a (for every taste definition): LIGHT GREY / ALLUMINIUM / SILVER GREY / SILVER knurled alu handle, no other colours, only the imprinting of the swiss cross.

Sorry Wallisco, you have an "ORIGINAL swiss army knife" one of the best export products of switzerland made by Wenger or Victorinox. Unfortunately the "official" knife which every swiss soldier receives has a Handle in "light grey" or "silver grey", no colours and 5 functions. They are not sold, they are part of the equpment of swiss army.

Every swiss soldier receive a stainless steel knife with five functions. The handle is in aluminum (not only), this gives an aspect of Silver if you want,talking in colours i would say it's light grey. All the red handles with white swiss cross known as "Original Swiss Army Knife" are made by two swiss manufacturers: Victorinox/Wenger. These are sold in the whole world, but the swiss army soldiers have the "Silver Grey" one, with swiss cross, but no colour. I speak as NCO of the Swiss Army.
