kinda hard to explain since we don't know where you left off. The Doctor is from a race called the Time Lords, he fought in the Time War and supposedly was the only survivor. He wasn't but the Master was human. The Master is also a Time Lord and regains his Time Lord self and memories in the episode leading up to the finale 2 parter. It is also debatedly a 3 parter in which it would be the 1st part of the 3 parter. Hope this helps, if not, wikipedia is golden on Doctor Who!
