Whatever future wind energy has, this thing will have a very limited role.
VAWT units have their place, but for utility scale installations, they're of marginal value.

Of course, wind energy has a future. Many countries are already using wind turbines in generating their own power supply. This is very beneficial and you can use it as often as you want because its source is endless. It is safe and very convenient to use these wind turbines using wind power.

Looks innovative but the real test is a prototype. Paul Harvey use to broadcast how ethanol would save the US from foreign oil imports but we now know how that all turned out. Maybe it was because the sponsor of his show was McAuthor Danial Midlands, big agri corn producer.
So called renewables shows that the energy density of either wind or solar is not enough to replace fossil nor nuclear. It can't sustain itself much less our energy hungry lifestyle of supersized everything.

Very interesting!
It is nice to find Your idea at GE Ecomagination Challenge...
Best and warm regards

Wind energy sure is the future and with technologies like the 'Smart Grid' coming in, wind power is set to achieve higher levels in the era of renewable market. Transformer company, Pacific Crest Transformers offers grounding transformers with harsh duty requirements, Wind Turbine Step-Up Transformers, Collector Step-Up Transformers, and Dynamic VAR Compensation Systems Transformers.
Listen, there are so many scams and shams and snake oil salesmen out there, it's no wonder that VAWTs get such a black eye every time somebody actually tries to get useful work out of them. I saw a system exactly like this back in the 90's, and the owner said it took winds over 20MPH to start producing electricity. BTW, patent #6,800,995 is for an Image Display Device from Canon. Geez!

@BlackhawkWindEnergy WinDynamo patent is U.S. Utility Patent #6,800,955.
Operates in LOWER wind speeds than propellers ("WinDinosaurs"), can continue increasing power output at wind speeds far in excess of the 40-45 MPH at which WinDinosaurs must feather out. (Energy in wind increases 8-fold with a doubling of velocity.
You did NOT see a system "exactly like this" back in the '90's!
Geez!
