Church 2092 is the first in a five-part series called "Dreaming of Vital Congregations" available for viewing NOW from the General Board of Discipleship (GBOD), of the United Methodist Church. This is certainly the sort of openly contemplative religious discussion that will save human spirituality. Bravo.

One thing is for sure, the future of church is much different from what we have today.I don't think that difference is 80 years out. I think it's 20-25 years out, max.
We all are much in my prayers. I believe God is ready to do a new thing among us! Let's walk by faith and not by sight.

Yes! This is a very important conversation. We need to keep it moving forward. For a denomination to lead local congregations in transformation, I believe the denomination will need first to envision and transform its structures and polity in truly adaptive ways. Otherwise the changes envisioned are limited to little more that technical change -- or worse yet, they are doing more of the same and expecting different results.

We used this video as part of our Annual Meeting at the United Church of Two Harbors, Minnesota. It generated much thoughtful discussion. Thanks!

I find the comments about "inertia" very true! That is something I have noticed there is less of here at college with entirely new congregations every 4 or so years.
I really feel a congregation's inertia is something that has to be overcome to enable them to reach younger generations who just plain do things differently (and are often turned away by "outdated" ideas and ways of doing things).
I also agree with the comment that the future is in many small churches instead of massive ones.

I am thrilled to see this video....I will be praying for what the Lord has in store for us today and for what is there in the future. I will continue to be faithful and open to the leadings of the Holy Spirit as I join the rest of you in planting the seeds today.

I hope that at some point in the virtual conversation we hear more of a dream for our denomination to move to a place of total dependence in Christ's grace, power and guidance. So far, all we hear is "this is what we can do and become". It is not about what "we" can do...as much as it is about what "God" can do in us and through us.
