Chopin's Ballade no. 1 in G minor performed by Melanie Snow Thompson. This is my entry for the Van Cliburn amateur classical pianist youtube competion. Please consider voting for me via e-ballot before Nov. 23rd @ www.cliburn.org That would be great!!:) Please excuse a couple of pedal "thumps" in the beginning of the piece.

  • OMG, when I heard you singing Annie's song at the piano I knew there was something special about you. Now I hear you playing a Chopin ballad, magnificently I might add. I'm honored to have you as a subscriber, please let me know if there's any particular song you would like to hear.

  • @annettenpaul Thank you so much! I enjoy playing/performing a wide array of music. Your encouraging words mean a lot. Have a great night.-Melanie

  • I think I begin to understand how many parts were composed, each hand was probably done separately, the left and hands in many parts sound complete by themselves, probably they were practiced separately and then put together; I love your playing!

  • It has the sonata form: the 1st theme in minor key, then a long bridge, and then the 2nd theme in the mayor key, and then the development, then 1 st recapitulations of the 1st theme and then of the 2nd theme, then a 2nd recapitulation of the 1st theme and the long coda. You play it beautifully!

  • Ah!, I imagine that to compose this it took him a thousand days!

The repetition of the altered chords, before the enter of the powerful theme with big chords and jumps in the left, create a feeling of exciting and emotion that can only be described by the passion of a life time, and not by the passion of a moment of excitement. ¿Who long did it take you to learn it?
