Mario Lanza (1921-1959)

"Non ti scordar di me" (Ernesto de Curtis). Recorded April 25, 1952 for The Mario Lanza Show, with studio orchestra conducted by Constantine Callinicos.

This has been previously released as the title track of RCA's poorly remastered "Don't Forget Me" album. The audio here brings back the natural overtones of Lanza's voice that were eliminated by RCA's overly processed sound (an unfortunate characteristic of several of their reissues). Yet another stellar Lanza performance (his only recording of the song), with mezza voce used to beautiful effect, this "Non ti scordar di me" is accompanied by poignant video footage of his funeral procession and service.

  • Since I was a youngster I have been a Lanza fan...very devoted. Now I am almost 70. My first LP that was purchased with my own money as a kid was The Great Caruso. I have a supernatural story about Lanza that happened to both me and mom about 1966. But too many here are rude to anything different. Now only I know what happened. Goodbye, Mario. I will be seeing you soon.

  • This Neapolitan song was certainly NOT played at Mario's funeral.

  • I did meet him and he was wonderful - handsome, smiling and in great voice, filling the hall with his voice and only accompanied by a pianist. with no electronic enhancement. Do not compare him with anyone else please - he was unique with a voice like no other and we will never see his like again. There has only been Mario for me for the last 58 years and he will always be my only tenor..... not interested in any of the others who are unable to match Mario's voice.

  • How sad to be watching Mario's funeral....... we will never forget the pleasure he gave to so many people, and indeed is still giving. His voice was unique - there will never be another one to match his glorious voice. Life is so unfair at times - he was gone far too soon. His potential had yet to be reached when he died so young.

Mario, you will never be forgotten. Thank you so much for all you gave.

  • Mario will never be forgotten. Thank you so much for this song, one of my favourites fo all time. It always upsets me to see those pictures of his funeral - he died far too early. Who knows what success he would have had in the opera houses if he had lived. I consider it to have been around when he was with us - the greatest ever!

  • @paulostroff99 Paulo,We all have our preferences and certainlyGigli was a great tenor. My intent is not to diminish another artist but certainly to just state an opinion.Even though I have my favorites which are Lanza, DelMonacoCorelli&DiStefano, I certainly mean that I enjoy them the most.I also enjoy other great singers as well like Caruso Pertile Campagnano Lauri Volpi Barioni Fillipeschi Cortis ETC.Many tenors including my favorites have their shortcomings, but I enjoy them irregardless Enjoy

  • @sugarbist -Gigli-he was certainly not.

  • SUCH A BEAUTIFUL SONG BUT PLAYED AT HIS FUNERAL WHEN THE WORLD LOST THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GREAT SINGER EVER.

  • Moving! Gracias!

    Miguel
