@Aristowi The amps have a preamp and a power amp section. Very simply put, the guitar goes into the pre-amp section of the amp and this is the part that will add distortion and the tone controls and then goes to the power amp section to amplify it.
Most amps u cant split the two but on the mesa boogies u can take the line out after the preamp and then run it into whatever power amp you like (some sound different). Or take the preamp signal straight to the mixing desk for recording if u want
