What is Contemplative Prayer? Is it Godly or is it New Age? This video exposes Contemplative Prayer and its occultic roots and why it is dangerous to practice it.

This video has been reposted. I had used the "Narnia" soundtrack as background music, and it was approved as long the copyright holder was notified of my comments. Someone complained, I am guessing because I did get a complaint about it, I had to take it down and redo it without music. I really couldn't find anything decent in audio swap but I had to use something.

  • Thank you! It is a very dangerous practice creeping into the Church, and what's so sad is that there is not enough discernment in God's people to see it for what it is. :( I am glad you are out of that now and are with me in the family of the Living God! :) Grace and peace to you, always.

  • This is excellent Karen, you did a good job of exposing what contemplative prayer is. There are way too many christians who have bought into this, thinking they are communing with God and getting closer to him. When just the opposite is the case. They are putting themselves first and opening their minds up to demonic suggestions. It is idolitry to the core and from the pitts of hell.

God bless you Karen for speaking out.

  • Karen, nice job with your scriptural backing. I used to customize the bible according to my pleasure and life. That included following other Christians in history who had visions, or prophets who were mystical. God woke me up and showed me the truth. It saddens me when other Christians get upset when you reprove, with not just one scripture but several. But again, people want to do what feels good, rather than test the spirits, 1 John 4:1.

  • This video lumps all kinds of things together, Christian, quasi-Christian and pagan, in a way, either dishonest or ignorant. The kind of deep prayer experienced in monastic settings (Roman Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, Taize) is miles away from what is taught here. Caveat emptor. (For the real thing, read IMITATION OF CHRIST or the PHILOKALIA or THE WAY OF A PILGRIM or Thomas Merton or Evelyn Underhill or some so much else. This isn't the true picture of real contemplative prayer.)

  • I have found great spiritual insight and a peace that surpasses all understanding by opening my heart to God through means of meditation. It is simple, earnest, worldless prayer that opens the gate to God's presence.

  • "Be still and know that I am God." implies not always actively praying, as does the verse that says that the Spirit prays with groanings to deep for words. Listening to God is not active prayer. Quieting our minds is *necessary* for healthy thinking and living. Focusing on one word, expecting God to be involved in the time, and in our lives, is part of this.

  • @KarensFaith thanks for your video. but, i must add: in centering prayer, you don't repeat the word over and over. the only real instruction is to allow God's presence and action within. the reason for the word is to anchor your intention...not to repeat like a mantra. surely, this is biblical. be still and know i am God is the deal, nothing else.

  • This is Lectio Divina:

When you read the following thoughts of God in His Humanity, as who's voice do they sound in you now, without actually making a sound, like a still small voice within?

"Every one that is of the truth, heareth my voice."

    (John 18:37)

  • @KarensFaith There's no "creeping into the Church" involved. Contemplative prayer has been prevalent in Christianity since the earliest days and throughout its rich mystical tradition.

  • Don't give God a chance to talk to you. That would be very dangerous. He is liable to slip up and say something not biblical. A big to-do about nothing.

  • The scriptures tell us not to use vain repetitions as well . . . .

Satan comes as an angel of light, and deceives many.

very good video warning of contemplative prayer and its demonic path!

we are to keep in control of our minds, not let anything or anybody else have that.

to keep a sound mind, Romans 12:2

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

  • I am saddened to see the statement here that contemplative prayer leads to demonic possession. As a child I read books by Frank Peretti that suggested the same idea and the fear I felt at the thought of demons infiltrating my mind kept me away from what I now consider to be the very meaning of my life - a beautiful excercise of humbling myself in silence to "be still and know [he is] God". Contemplation helps bring patience, compassion, humility and love to my life. I judge it by its fruit.
