The Doctor and Bill are called to Earth by UNIT's Commander Bjorn to investigate strange happenings and the disappearances of many UNIT scientists. But there is a stranger plot afoot...

GENERAL INFORMATION

This is the episode that I am most happy with lighting-wise. It shows the benefits of an anglepoise lamp (or a 'Disney Pixar' lamp as I like to call it :D) and how a scene is easier to control. It's amazing how one lamp can change the whole atmosphere of a scene. Like in Scene 2 it is obviously night time outside and the room seems to be lit by a lamp. But later on in the same room, it looks like early morning sunlight streaming through a window. I highly recommend using an anglepoise lamp simply because shots are so much easier to control with one. This is probably my favourite singular episode in the series. I was pleased with how the script, audio, music, backround noise, lighting and animation went. The first scene is fairly quiet but they get louder after that. I was inspired to write this story after I had a holiday in Downderry, Cornwall (the same holiday in which I wrote 'War of the Daleks'). I was walking along the beach early in the morning. It was an overcast, grey sky, the fog was light and wistful. The seaweed gently floated on the water's surface. That was when I was inspired to do the third Doctor story with the sea devils but it never came to anything. So, I re-instated it in this series. Although, my original idea was almost completely different (soooooo it is still a possible story idea for the future...). My original idea for 'Rise of the Sea Devils' involved much more the idea of mind control and it would have the Sea Devils coming out of the water and attacking. It was going to involve UNIT much more directly (I know this story does but my original idea was going to have extensive battle sequences). Incidentally, this is my last UNIT story until 'The Ambassadors of Doom' (which will hopefully be out inbetween Christmas and Easter (if not before!)). In fact I have got a few stories planned and if you are interested it explains on my channel.

  • Fantastic Episode!!

  • @dog2penguin Thanks :)

  • Just to add to my comment, the use of the anglepoise lamp was done really well I thought, and you voiced the sea-devil really well, but the rest of the characters sounded more or less the same to me. Sorry to say that, but all in all, I'm going to give it a thumbs up rating!!

    Great work! :)

  • @theseus27 Yeah, it's true though! I tried to add a bit of variation to the voices, but it was hard :P I will try harder in future

  • @theseus27 Thanks for the thumbs up rating :D

  • Wow, a person of much versatile talent. Voiced, Designer, Visual effects,Filming,Sound editor,etc......all done by yourself!!!

I take my hat off to you. Very well done I thought.

Well, I enjoyed this episode very much, and like penninefilms said the lighting was exceptionally good.It was a bit dark when we saw the sea-devil for the first time, but I think that's due to my old monitor brightness settings.Even on maximum brightness it's still slightly dark.

    I look forward to Ep. 2 :)

  • @theseus27 Thanks for the really kind comment :)

The reason I made it so dark on the Sea Devil's first appearance was to try and add effect, I suppose I was trying to make it more creepy :)

Thanks again for the kind comment :)
