The iCub robot grasps a ball, as the final result of the collaboration between the grasping group and the visual attention group at the Veni Vidi Vici Summer School 2008, held in Sestri Levante.

  • cool! not I'm wondering, was that something the programmed into it or did it grab it of its own accords. like based on the fact the object grabed its attention and the i grabed it.

  • Hi Turgoband.

    In the experiment shown in this video the robot was programmed to detect and track that specific ball (in 3D) and to grab it.

    If you want to see the iCub reacting to the interesting stuff that goes on around it, please have a look at Jonas Ruesch's video on Multimodal Saliency-Based attention (it's in the related videos, it seems that I can't write the link here or youtube won't publish my comment. This prevented me from answering sooner).

  • It is all programmed, not matter how complex the algorithms are it is always programmed.
