Alot of people don't believe you can get addicted to a video game. I can tell you firsthand that they are wrong. I didn't believe it either till it happened to me. I even joked about it before starting the 10 day trial- "ooohh, hope I don't get addicted. ha ha ha"
well... next thing I knew....
realize this is a game and there's no physical property possesed by it that is addictive. It's a person's choice to play or not. I take full responsibility for my decisions. Studies have shown, however, that it can and does trigger the release of dopamine in the brain, just like certain narcotic drugs.
nothing is an addiction in and of itself but ANYTHING can become an addiction if you allow it.

TAKEN FROM YAHOO NEWS 7 - 18 - 09:
Virtual worlds are designed to be addictive. That's how the creators make money: if its players get bored, they give up and quit paying. Nothing wrong with addictive games in moderation, but when obsessed players put virtual rewards over real jobs, relationships, and chores, lives get ruined. World of Warcraft, merely by virtue of being the biggest and most successful virtual world to date, is the chief culprit -- so much so that one Swedish researcher called it "the crack cocaine of the computer gaming world" in a government-backed report. "Some people are literally unable to drag themselves away and will play it till they drop," he said.

Hmmm.... is it the chief culprit because it's the biggest and most popular or is it the biggest and most popular because it's more addictive than the rest?

Comments and video responses are welcome. I don't care if you agree with me or sympathize. Or if you disagree and want to rant or flame. They'll all be accepted and left up as is.
Thanks for watching. Hope I helped in some way...

  • Also, I'm not going to lie brother... MMORPG's are absolutley NOT for people with families who do not have self control. You made the right decision. Let MMORPG's be played by us who do not want families or kids. A career, exercise, and MMORPG's are fine for us. Families aren't for everyone, but for those who chose the family life. Do not neglect.

  • @SkygroundQ You're right. MMO's simply don't fit in certain lifestyles and the 'having kids, wife, good job, lot of bills' lifestyle is probably the worst. I knew going in that "some" people got addicted but i didn't think it could happen to me. MMo's are designed to take up alot of time. The problem started when I started caring about having the best gear/stats, leveling proffesions, grinding mats and rep, etc... If I was the only one being hurt, there would've been no problem.

  • This guy needs to stop worrying about WoW and go fuck his wife, who's with me?

  • Awareness and experience go hand in hand.

  • Hey man, take it as a learning experience. You've been able to connect with people all around the world as equals, who you wouldn't normally talk to if it wasn't for the game. You simply exchanged one set of experiences for others that will always be with you. Thank you for sharing your story.

  • @RealmWoW Uploading a video like this takes alot of courage and you should admire that. Have a heart! Who's with me?

  • Get a job, fuck your wife, spend time with your kids, and schedule WOW to your schedule.. that way you have everything you want in life with some free time to yourself back into the wonderful land of azeroth
