  • Carter was one of the most original writers of the twentieth centuries: it's such a shame that she died when had so much more to give. Plus Nights at the Circus wasn't shortlisted for the Booker Prize, which is a travesty.

  • I have read everything she has ever written and absolutely love all of it. Her use of magic realism is beautiful and disturbing and so original.

The Bloody Chamber is extraordinary.... as is The Magic Toyshop and Nights at the Circus. I just love her work.

  • Wise Children is a master piece! A must read!

  • Such an inspiration.

  • It's amazing how England produces such great writers!

  • I've just discovered Angela Carter. I'm reading The Passion of New Eve at the moment and I absolutely love it. It's a long time since a writer has grabbed me the way she has.

  • I am a little bit in love with this woman. Just finished The Magic Toyshop, and am still reeling from the post-Carter aftershocks. Amazing. My head is a-melt.

  • Her Puss-in-Boots story is comedic genius. What an incredible writer.
