Laptop to tv using hdmi

this is what happened when i plugged hdmi from my laptop in to the tv. its went in to like two screens and not just displayed whats on my screen.
i dont no y its done this but can anyone tell me how to sort it ?
Okay so thanks for the guys who helped and got this problem fixed for me. i'll leave this up so if anyone else has the same problem hopefully this will help

Just go to Control panel and find your ATI/nVidia settings and set your LCD TV to primary output device! Problem solved...

As mine and Mum's PCs don't have HDMI can I get something like a USB to HDMI or a VGA to HDMI or some sort of box?

If your tv is a plazma it might frose the pic into the tv. If that happened your tv is runied.

hi, ive got a grundig hd ready tv tryin to connect to it from a compaq laptop using a hdmi cable, the laptop recignises the tv but the tv doesent recognise the laptop, it says no signal, i have no hdmi channels on the tv just EXTs 1,2,3,4,4s and 5 - which i use with my hdmi cable to ps3 and works fine so i kno i can do this plz someone help me this is rlly frustrating!! :)

I think u should go to ur screen propertys (control panel) and set the tv as a second screen, then just ajust the resolution (I think thats a 32 " ? so put it around 1920x1080) Hope i helped you (:

im using lenovo laptop on my 42 inch plasma ..it appears just fine, but the pic is not as large as my tv, perhaps iti is a resoution issue.. but im happy anyway... :-)

@russell602 best thing is get decryter decryp all the dvd from shhh... and place them on your laptop and see them on your tv via the HD cable.
