Land art and landscape design meet in this film made in Dumfriesshire in southern Scotland by Allan Pollok-Morris. Jim Buchanan faces the incoming tide while making a 1:1 scale drawing of a labyrinth he will ultimately create in a garden. Along with 30 other land artists and garden makers, Jim Buchanan shares his thoughts on his work in the book 'Close: Landscape Design and Land Art in Scotland' (Northfield Editions). A wider series of large format photography from the book and film can be seen in the exhibition 'Close: A journey in Scotland' in the United States Botanic Garden on Capitol Hill, Washington DC, 22nd January to 5th of June 2011. The full length film in the exhibition, Produced by Lydia Berrington and with soundtrack by the band Little Sparta, has the artists' and designers' words spoken with a wider set of imagery of their works.
