Ithaka "Seabra Is Mad" (1997)

This video directed Nuno Franco in Lisbon (Portugal)
stars Ithaka, Ewan Butler, Josette (aka Jo, Hi-Fi Jo)
and Portuguese big wave surfing legend Jose "Ze" Seabra
whose monumental ocean heroics are what Ithaka
wrote the song's lyrics about.

In 1995 Seabra, Ithaka Darin Pappas and another mutual friend Joao Valente (editor of Surf Portugal Magazine) were among the first people to ever surf the mystical surf spot Jardim do Mar on the island of Madeira.

Witnessing Seabra's fearless approach to the giant waves inspired Ithaka to make the song.

"He was just crazy, surfing these huge waves without reservation in a place almost no one had been before.
He really charted new ground.
I HAD to write a song about !"

Seabra (who is presently the manager/coach for top ASP surfer Tiago Pires) is seen in the video surfing Madeira
at Punta Pequena during a BIllabong Big Wave contest, but on a much smaller day than the day(s) that inspired the song.

"Unfortunately we had no footage of that day", says Ithaka.
