NASA Championship Race 2006 - Driver Carol Hollfelder

This was the first NASA National Championship event held at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in 2006. Due to my own mistake, I started the race a half a lap behind the 944s which were given the green flag a half a lap behind the group that I was actually racing. I passed every one of the 944s at least once, caught and passed every car in my own class except for the Radical which was running times at least 2 seconds faster than mine. I ended up finishing 4th overall and 2nd in the Super Unlimited class. I was totally exhausted at the end of the race which isn't surprising since I'd had major surgery only 6 months prior and had only been back in a car a couple of times before the National.

The announcer apparently didn't do his homework before the race and assumed that all the drivers were men. The hand controls were an even bigger surprise to him.

A surgery? Wow this is why I love you, your strong, you didn't back down and your out there kicking ass. Handle it I know you will tear it up out there at Nationals. I'll definitely try to follow you if you race in California. I look up to you miss, your my hero and my inspiration. I could seriously write a novel on how much you mean to me and what I'd say to you, nice things obviously, so I'll stop here!
