PLEASE READ before you comment: This is a photo compilation of individuals killed by drunk / intoxicated drivers (most of the victims were 18-24 years old when they were killed).

The compilation was put together by a college professor after losing yet another student in a drunk driving accident. All pictures were selected and uploaded to the MADD website by the victims' families and friends (for those who have asked: the author of this video did not engage in any selection other than 'age' and 'non-intoxicated / third-party victim').

The background song is by Belgian group Clouseau ("Ik wil niet dat je weggaat" ["I don't want you to go away"]). It happens to be in Dutch, but the only reason why it was chosen is because its arrangement and voice carry across the sadness and despair of the victims' relatives and friends.

Addendum 1: Some viewers have questioned the authenticity of the photos. I'd like to question in return: Why should I use FAKE photos, considering the photos of DUI/DWI victims are readily available? Each single year, between 13,000 and 16,000 people die in drunk-driving accidents in the United States. All photos were taken from the MADD database. In addition, by reading through the comments you will find posts made by the mothers of three victims in this video, as well as by numerous friends. A fourth mother also contacted me.

Addendum 2: Please keep your immaturities to yourself. I will delete all rude, provocative, argumentative, or otherwise inappropriate comments. It's a very sad sign that you feel like having to make them in the first place.

  • having been arrested for DUI, this just breaks my heart. I learned a valuable lesson that night and I actually went back to thank the officer who arrested me. I live with a guilt of what I could have done and I didn't hurt anyone but I could have and it still eats at my soul. Don't drink and drive people.

  • @inmemoryofkeisha We have the same problem here in New Zealand. Douche Bags Drink, Drive and kill. Sentenced to five years jail, serve 2 years then released and they still get behind the wheel pissed.

    Makes me mad.

  • @ericdhall77 I'm in the same boat as you friend. you would think ppl would learn but they don't. after I got my d.u.i the fines alone were enough to teach me.but some people don't learn and do end up hurting someone. don't know what I would do if someone died or was seriously injured as a result of my stupid desicion. thank god some of us learn from our mistakes. kudos for being strong enough to admit to your mistake on a video like this. live well friend.

  • I wish something positive could be done to really make folks think before they drink/do drugs & drive. Perhaps they should be made to donate a kidney, lung or skin to help save a life after ruthlessly taking one (or several) by thinking, "oh I'll be fine, gimme the keys dammit!" Think about it, take a life with DUI? Save a life by being a living donor on top of the jail time & fines. Bet that would help lower the numbers of those who drink & drive.

  • @jcasto78 Not true. Cab drivers are not required to give free rides. During the holiday season, here in Springfield, Missouri, a FEW bars gave vouchers for free cab rides to their patrons, but most bars didn't participate. Be responsible if you go drinking. Make sure you have CAB FARE home. Cab drivers do not get paid by the hour, and virtually all of them have to buy their own gas, so remember to tip, also.

  • I also lived with an alcoholic for 6 years which pretty much fucked up my life as it is. Most people drink at a young age because of peer pressure or abuse at home. When I almost got charged with assault, I was drunk. I then got sober for a while then relapsed. Like I said in my previous comment, this video changed me.

  • I watched this video in grade 8 language today. ( I'm a year ahead) This changed my life. I'm never drinking again. ( I was young when I got YouTube so please excuse my name)

  • my son was hit by a drunk driver he was 5 he was leaft with post traumatic injuries he is lucky to be alive the person had been charged 8 times before and was not licensed to drive

  • I'm a DUI officer and I can't tell you how frustrating it is to try to get a DUI conviction in some counties. A judge would rather have it pleaded out than have some idiot get one on his/her record. If I forget to check a box on a ticket, case dismissed. It's bullshit.

  • true story i had a bad drug problem in early 2000 i had gotten pretty bad, and on nov 11 2001 i robbed a 7-11 with a knife for money to get drugs..NO ONE got hurt i got away with the money and was arrested that night when my friend turned me in. I got 7 yr under the NERA act which requires to serve 85%. well ive been home now for over 4 years doin great clean n sober. during my prison stay i met personally 3 people who had claimed lives of children teen n adults from DWI.Theydid 3years if that.

  • At 3:15 , the girl in orange, her mother told her story when I went to a MADD meeting. That was 3 years ago; I didn't think I'd see a picture of her again...

  • I cant like this video because it will make me seem like i liked that so many people died.

But i cant dislike this video since it'll make me sound like i'm saying i dont care that you are doing this for everyone.

But bless you for doing this for so many people, and let them rest in peace <3.
