I LOVE FOSSILS

Im nice right now, man
I-I feel good
If you have a geological hammer
Would you please put it in the air?

That outcrop last week was awfully ancient I hope they date it
I hammered my ass off til all of the fossils were excavated
Chisel shale or dig sandstone, searching for that perfect bone
Loved dinosaurs, since I was ten, go out to see the Smithsonian
Man, I love fossils

I wanna dig up fossils for the rest of my life
Tyrannosaurus rex with a monster-sized bite
Prehistoric sharks bigger than a great white
And the archaeopteryx that pioneered flight

So from the good old Jurassic to the upper Triassic
The age of dinosaurs was completely fantastic
And from Ordovician to Cambrian
Life exploded and began to spawn

From geology to paleontology
Prehistory, thats what appeals to me
I use my free time to learn about deep time
But still find me time to write these sweet rhymes

I didnt study fossils in school but
Ive collected quite a few, um
Yeah, of course I learned some rules
Like dont dig on private property

And make sure the rocks are sedimentary
And know some basic osteology
And remember trilobite taxonomy
Or how to construct a phylogeny

Coprolites gross out some, but nothings wrong with some dung
With bugs in amber youve no chance of getting stung
I use my free time to learn about deep time
