is this Calaloo done the Jamaican way? He should have used spinach....not collards, no. I like Calaloo done the Trini and Jama'can way though.....

Thanks for the comment. I've adapted the flavors of the Islands into my dishes for the folks here in the states so yes it is Americanized.

well my mum adds tomato, but that's just cause we really like them! Also, yea, where is the crab and okra....can't have callaloo without okra! :)
ok, I need to help clarify for the people out there who do not know what callaloo is. It isn't assumed that you should already know either. First, callaloo is NOT collard greens! They are in fact dasheen leaves a.k.a. the leaves of the taro root. I am of trindadian descent and have researched all of the staple dishes. I may be wrong but I have also NEVER seen tomatoes added either. Lastly, where's the blue crab or salted pig tail at homie?! Enough babble, just wanted to clarify...

Now, I must state that stateside if you are unable to find dasheen bush, he is right about substituting spinach. BUT collards are in my opinion too far off in flavor and texture to properly substitute in the dish. I also didn't see the addition of okra, that is ESSENTIAL to a proper pot of callaloo!
