TEEN MAY LOSE HER HAND TO ANTIBIOTIC-RESISTANT, FLESH-EATING, FISH TANK BACTERIA

Hannele Cox, 13, cut her hand on her family's fish tank five years ago and has been battling an infection from a rare fish tank bacteria ever since. The infection has now spread to her bones and may require the amputation of her right hand if the bacteria cannot be stopped.

@ByeHawks wow thats really sad but its good to hear you are staying so positive. i agree people dont understand how dangerous antibiotic resistance is. they continue to take antibiotics without finishing them and even things as simple as hand sanitizer usage can cause resistance. there really should be an information campaign on these issues because it will only become more prevalent if we dont. stay strong, pal

But even though I'm upset at the outcome, I realize that I'm very lucky to be alive (let alone still have my arm) It really amazes me that serious bacterial infections don't get the awareness they need. Resistant infections are at pandemic levels in the US, and they're only going to get worse as more bacteria develops immunity to antibiotics.
