Transdniester has been de-facto independent from Moldova since the violent conflict of 1992. The last year partial recognitions of such breakaway territories as Kosovo, South Ossetia and Abkhazia and the recent violent riots in Moldova put Transdniester in the spotlight of world media. To talk about the Transdniester pint of view on the current events, our guest in the studio is Vladimir Yastrebchak, Transdniester Foreign Minister.

I'll make it clear for RussiaToday: many Romanians are nostalgic for "Greater Romania" because it was a union achieved by democratic means of all Romanian lands. However, Transnistria was not a part of Romania at that time (at least not all of it) and we don't care about Transnistria. Furthermore, we will only accept Moldova if Moldova wants union. We never use force.

Moldova wants to be in the EU... if that happens, there wont be a border between Moldova and Romania... Transnistria cannot be independent, it cant survive without Moldova or without Russia. Transnistria is more like a garage used by Russia to keep its army and last small influence in Europe.
