Unlike every other plane I own, I did NOT heavily modify this plane. I love the Vista how it is. I cut the nose back just enough to install a 480/ 960 kv motor(taken out of a RPro I upgraded the motor on)and added a BB aluminum spinner(hubless)with a G-Cam 11 x 6 prop. and a 2650 mah 3s batt.. The added battery weight calms it down in conditions that would normally throw this 'meant to be a glider' all over the place. That is one long and deep wing, and yet it has a boom that is shorter than a R Pro(by 3") so you can swing it around REAL fast(with a rudder and elevator with more surface area than an RPRO as well). No ails.

Vista is made to FLOAT and grab onto thermals...yet properly weighted and powered it won't twitch out too bad in the wind. On powered climbing in wind, the very deep wing root makes it a bit harder to keep the nose at just the right climb angle for a smooth climb...as the wing bottomreally wants to grab the air when the angle of attacjk is raised. This plane wing is designed to fly FLAT or at very low raised angle of attack. Which is what makes it so good in thermals. it wants to sit on air with very little pitch control. Minimum pitch is easy to establish and hold in calm air or therms but not in these winds! So you will notice the no motor/soar sections are very smooth while the pitched angles for climbing are not so and hard to maintain. Evenso...the motor chews it's way up to altitude...you just have to be on it for bank as that is not waht it is designed for.
Oh well! anything beats a bungee launch! This modded vista performs best motor off and VERY well in these winds as mine is set up. I love this plane.

  • @roberttreboranita Sorry that the plane is so high(wow am I really apologizing for my plane being up high!!?? )that it is lost on the gopro wide angle lense. Easier to work the wind up high given the gradient. No mods past motor install. Flew again this a.m. in 3-5 mph winds and even flew inverted!-several times-which I was surprised this wing would do. Sure enough though it soon gets grabbed by the breeze being such a huge wing; falls out. Im in Portland,WISH the coast! Thanks!

  • Hi...Yes! that flew well! not too many mods as you say...but enough to improve it!

did not realize you are on oregon coast, i got family up in van. bc so you are at present 8 hours behind me like they are! anyways, have a good trip this weekend! Rob
