A narrated presentation about the area in downtown Muskegon that was once the primary shopping district of the city. In 1976 an enclosed mall opened downtown and in 2001 the mall closed forever. This presentation covers the area from 1900 to the present. It goes beyond the destruction of the mall and looks at the current redevelopment.

This is my fist ever narrative. It leaves a lot of room for improvement.

  • Boy, I'd forgotten how ugly that old Mall was. Maybe it would have survived better if they'd ever gotten around to renovating it. I'd forgotten that when the new mall was built it was while the old one was still open and probably contributed to its demise. Interesting video.

  • @Flashygrrl Yes, I'm sure the mall was never renovated because for the longest time it had no major local competition and it managed to stay at near full occupancy. Then the Lakes Mall opened and in months the Muskegon Mall went from being almost full to being a ghost town.
