I wrote this song after a year long medical treatment that damn near killed me. By the time it was over, I was starting to look a little like Gollum :) It wasn't till after the treatment (and I started to feel better) that I realized I wasn't the man I saw in the mirror (even though it was who I saw there for the previous 12 months). Let me tell you it's a very, very odd experience to see a stranger staring back at you. And I realized then, that this was who my wife lived with all that time. So in spirit of the Thanksgiving Holidays and being thankful this submission is dedicated to Veronica! I don't know what I would do without her in my life!
A Shadow of the Man
Verse 1:
I never thought that I would see,
what the mirror shows to me.
A shadow of the man I was,
lifts up his head and stares back at me.
Verse 2:
And I think of all that Ive been through,
and what this must have done to you.
And the shadow of the man I was,
shakes his head and he smiles at me.
Chorus 1:
Cause Ive been a lucky man.
I went through it all and come back again.
Yes, Ive been a lucky man,
cause when I needed you,
oh, you carried me.
Verse 3:
Now I believe in destiny,
because the fates brought you to me.
And looking back I should have known,
Id never made it through alone.
Verse 4:
You kept me sane, you kept me sound,
when everything came crashing down.
When I couldnt see beyond the pain,
you helped me find my way again.
Chorus 2:
Yes Ive been a lucky man.
I went through it all and come back again.
Yes, Ive been a lucky man,
cause when I needed you,
oh, you carried me.
Thank you, thank you.
