I still remember being so surprised when I found out Madonna was not a black girl by watching Borderline video back in 1984. I loved her then, still love her now 27 years later. I have only known one other female artist who made it against all odds, against evrything and everyone, she's been in showbusiness for 6 decades now and still making it big: Barbra Streisand

She didn't thank all of her co-producers/collaborators- but, the next year, she gave props to Steve Bray in a Rolling Stone interview, and mentioned Shep Pettibone. Also- "Rock" is an umbrella term for all genres of music. It was a no-brainer that she would be a first-year-eligible inductee, for the music, and what she did in her work in terms of gender, racial, religious, sexual and social mores. She went further than anyone, and brought important issues to the forefront for us to discuss.

I think the semtex girls (i dunno if i spelled that right) are niki haris and donna delory cause those two women help made madonna in some way the powerhouse sensational legend she is now.
