An old Euchee legend tells of a race between wolf (dathla) and turtle (ts'onta). Dathla challenges ts'onta to a race over four hills but is outsmarted by ts'onta because he tells his friends to wait on each hill so that dathla will think he's losing and quit the race. The children of the Euchee (Yuchi) Language Project perform this skit in the Euchee language at the Oklahoma Native American Youth Language Fair on April 2, 2012. They received 2nd place in the spoken language category (PreK-2nd graders). These children, ages 3-6, participate in the daily afterschool immersion program at the Euchee House. zAdOsh@nlA âsha!
