About the Lecture

Auburn University has had a mission to teach agriculture since 1872, when the state of Alabama accepted the provisions of the Morrill Act. In 1887 the Hatch Act provided federal funds to extend that mission into agricultural research. The Smith-Lever Act (1914) expanded the role to include agricultural extension. Since that time, teaching, research, and extension have been at the center of Auburn University's mission, not only in agriculture, but other disciplines as well.
