Oh, and since you have a well on your panel...I highly recommend you install a whole house surge arrester to protect the rest of the house from a surge.

Oh, and on the matter of wire size, general convention is to increase wire size by one gauge for stranded wire over the solid size that would be normally used

And btw any 125 amp or so fused disconnect would work fine as a cheap transfer switch. Just leave it off unless the main is disengaged and clearly label it as a generator feedpoint. Put a feed connector (weatherproof pin style) on the bottom for the genset to plug into. That will allow you to feed the whole panel to the limit of the appropriately sized fuses and the generators capacity of course.

I forgot to mention, that you will need to trip the breakers on circuits you don't want to power.

Technically you don't need the disconnect panel in a pinch... You could turn off your main breaker and back feed the panel from the largest circuit on your genset into a 240v breaker plugged into your panel. As long as you never turn the main on you are ok

one is none, two is one.

Honda are number one, I also like the yamaha generators, both big $

Haha love the A Team theme.

I'm kind of surprised you waited 4 days, from watching your videos I know your pretty resourceful. I think your being kind of hard on the way more affordable generators at home depot, I picked up an generac EXL 7500 /13,500 serge for $900 7 years ago, it was a returned unit, I use it for welding at least once a month, and emergency power for the house, sometimes for days on end, it's been great for a backup gen set, I can’t see spending 4x as much for a honda unless the noise is a big factor

@TheAmmoCan1 That is a slick way of getting power to the panel
I see you like those shark bites for the plumbing... they rock. I just have a dedicated 50amp 240 breaker in my panel box that my line from the generator plug is wired into. It stays off until grid down and then i just throw the main breaker off, start generator, plug into gen. and then turn on the 50 amp breaker. That gives my whole circuit box power. I will be very interested in watching that separate disconnect panel you get. I could hear Mrs. WranglerStar happiness.. which = your happiness.

dude..solar and wind in combination with a battery bank...when your channel first started out it held such great promise and now youre doing fossile fuels....I understand the financial difficulties that you guys went through..oh shoot..this probably sounds like critisizing...not meant as such..will you eventually have solar and wind powering your homestead? it could be a huge deal...
