On July 30th, 2004, while bar fishing on the Fraser River, a boat with two occupants proceeded to set a driftnet just upstream from us. The net then drifted through our casting range so we had to retrieve our fishing rigs, otherwise they would have been caught up in the net. The netting done was illegal because there was no openings for driftnetting at the time. The two occupants of the boat managed two sockeye salmon from that particular drift.

  • @fishingwithrod ok i thought that they could do it anytime they wanted to .

  • @salmonslayermatt There are several different types of fishery openings for First Nations - Communal, ceremonial and economic. All of these have specific opening times and they are posted on Fisheries and Oceans Canada's website weekly.

  • Hey you know those people could be aboriginals who are allowed to driftnet

  • @salmonslayermatt Those people ARE aboriginals who are allowed to drift net during legal openings, but it was not done during a legal opening, that's why they are called illegal drift netters?

  • I smell a little jealousy !! I take it you are not doing so well Rod ! Spend a little more time learning your grammer and spelling instead of WHINING so much. I find it really funny that most people are quick to label all first nations as poachers. Remember the words First Nations. They never gave up their right to fish. Slack lines and Rough seas Loser !

  • Grammer?

  • @KyleLouis10 During the particular incident, there wasn't a FSC opening at the time. The individuals you see in the video are very aware of FSCs and have no problem with First Nations partaking in legal openings, however always will not tolerate and will report poachers, regardless what races they are in. Cheers.

  • all people living in canada shud have same rules....one man...one hook...one fish....then the abundance will return....

  • @bluegrouse5 You are a miserable asshole.

  • @xXbloodbabaXx thank you. you should try it.

  • @doggy6768 Calling it a fact dose not make it non racist.

  • @KyleLouis10 FSC my ass, these guys probably went straight off the river to sell it to a white man

  • @KyleLouis10 "Food, Social and Ceremonial purposes" right, its ceremonial to have a fish stand on the side of the road, selling fish when there are no openings present. you guys are like teenagers living off your parents(government) tit.
